Everyone remembers it was Brunelleschi who designed the dome of the cathedral, but it was architect Arnolfo di Cambio that designed the cathedral itself. He also designed Palazzo Vecchio and the church of Santa Croce. Giotto continued work on the cathedral after di Cambio's death but the design remained unchanged. Next to Brunelleschi is this statue of di Cambio, also contemplating his masterpiece.
